What’s New in Version 9.0

Aren Payroll 9.0 and Aren Register 9.0, released in December 2023, are a substantial revision of version 8.0 following several statutory changes in the course of the year. Here are the main changes as of Update 4. The blue text shows changes that have been made since the initial release.

Statutory Deductions

1. Changed housing levy to an inbuilt statutory deduction. In later updates of version 8.0, it was available as a user-defined deduction.
2. Allowed users to specify which earnings are regular and therefore subject to housing levy.
3. Added a separate taxation rate for secondary employees instead of using the highest rate in the PAYE table.
4. Made it possible for individual employees to opt out of Tier II NSSF.
5. Added SHIF as a statutory deduction alongside NHIF.
6. Implemented tax relief on housing levy payments.

Reports

1. Created monthly reports for housing levy and SHIF payments.
2. Added employer payments for housing levy and NITA to the pay period control account.

Security

1. Added option to require users to change their password after a period of time.
