What’s New in Version 10.0

Aren Register 10.0, released in December 2024, is a substantial revision of Aren Register 9.0 following several statutory changes in the course of the year. Here are the main changes as of Update 3. The blue text shows changes made after the initial release.

General

  1. User interface was refined in several ways, including a new background colour and report previews that show page layout more clearly.

Payroll

  1. Negative earnings were added to allow recovery of overpayments, cater for absences, etc.
  2. NHIF deduction was removed since it had been replaced by SHIF.
  3. Housing levy and SHIF contributions were made pre-tax deductions.
  4. Tax relief on housing levy contributions was removed.
  5. Computation of tax on employer-provided meals was implemented.

Reports

  1. Updated SHIF report and SHIF return file to include employee phone numbers.
  2. Added the latest format of the P9A report while retaining the previous format.
  3. Added annual statements summarising each employee's contribution to SHIF.
  4. Dropped redundant NSSF over-the-counter return file.
  5. Renamed NSSF self-service return file and updated it to cater for those who have opted out of Tier II contributions.
  6. Added a new Standard Chartered bank transfer format for RTGS payments.
  7. Updated one of the bank transfer formats for NCBA.

Issues Resolved

  1. In version 9.0, SHIF numbers could not be captured because they were too long. This was fixed.
  2. In previous versions, after restoring data to a new data folder, users would often have to select bank details afresh. This was resolved by referencing banks using sort codes rather than names.
  3. Payslips for 2024 showed SHIF and housing levy as pre-tax deductions even when this was not the case. This bug was fixed.
